CFED: Upcoming Events of Interest

Thursday, Sept. 20 - The Common Council budget hearing will consider a number of programs that affect economic development in South Bend, including Weed and Seed, Project Future, Downtown South Bend (DTSB), the Workforce Diversity Initiative, and the Chamber of Commerce Staff Position. The meeting begins at 5:30 and will be held in the Council Informal Meeting Room on the 4th Floor of the County-City Building.

Friday, Sept. 21 - The Community Forum for Economic Development's Inner City Task Force will meet at Noon this Friday, Sept. 21, at the Robinson Community Learning Center at 921 North Eddy Street. The following meeting will be on Tuesday, October 2, at 5:30 PM at the Howard Park General Store, on Jefferson Street across from the Howard Park Ice Skating Rink. New participants are welcome.

Thursday, Sept. 27 - The South Bend Community Gardens meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 7 - 8:30 PM, in the Molloy Room of the St. Joseph Public Library (304 South Main St., SB). This meeting will prepare for the fall tilling and site development of the first South Bend Community Garden, on the grounds of the Greenhouses on Mishawaka Avenue!! Thursday, Sept. 27 - The Real Estate Investors Association and the League of Women Voters will sponsor a "Meet the Candidates" night at the Elks Club, 3535 E. McKinley, South Bend. Note: this event is scheduled for next Thursday, not this Thursday, as reported recently in the SB Tribune.

Monday, Oct. 1 - The local chapter of AARP have invited all local Senators and Representatives to attend a meeting scheduled for Monday, October 1, at 1:00 PM, at the Leighton Center for Senior Health, 534 N. Michigan St. (across from Memorial Hospital). The meeting will address health and economic issues related to seniors. The program is free and open to the public and parking is available.
