Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens
June 10, 2002
Dave Vollrath, Secretary
1. Present
Tom B., Don B., Andrew C., Lance H., Dave V., and Mike C.
2. Opening and call to order
Don Brubaker called the meeting to order.
3. Reading and approval of minutes
Dave could attend the May 13 meeting for only 5 minutes, and so did not prepare minutes. Don briefly summarized that meeting: Don B. and Kathleen K. discussed dues for local and state Greens.
4. Reading of Applications for Membership
None.
5. Reports of Delegates and Officers
Treasurer – Don reported the current balance as $224.30, plus contents of the donations jar.
Indiana Green Party (IGP) - Tom announced that new officers will be elected at the July convention. He reported that 14 county and campus Greens groups are currently meeting across the state.
George Fish, of Marion County, has agreed to be a candidate for a write-in campaign for Secretary of State. The SJVGreens voted to support a write-in campaign for Secretary of State. However, we voted not to support Mr. Fish as the candidate in that campaign.
We decided that Tom and Dave will serve as the SJVGreens delegate team through the July 2003 convention. They will take turns attending the monthly meetings in Indianapolis and will encourage the IGP to allow more business to be conducted via e-mail.
6. Committee Reports
Don and Lance are currently co-chairs of the Outreach and new Civics committees. Additional members are welcome
Environmental Committee - Don reviewed issues surrounding Combined-Sewer-Overflow (CSO) events. We discussed possible actions and allies in raising awareness of these issues.
7. Old Business
Fundraising - Tom asked for and received support to continue negotiations with a vendor to produce SJVGreens t-shirts for sale to members and the public. Don will check on the balance of the fund raising account. In case that account has insufficient funds, Dave pledged another $150 to buy the shirts.
SBCSC Music Program Cuts - Tom reported on activities of a community coalition, of which he is co-coordinator, to lobby the SBCSC School Board for restoration of funds cut from music programs.
Grant Application - Tom asked for and received a letter of support from the SJVGreens for a possible grant application with the United Religious Community to the Lilly Endowment. The grant would enable older computers to be reused in networks to serve non-profit organizations.
8. New Business
None.
9. Announcements
None.
10. Next meeting
July 8, 2002.
