Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens

September 8, 2003, Kathleen Kaiser, recorder

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM at the St. Joseph Valley Public Library, Main Branch.

Members Present: Vicki Webb, Lance Howard, Dave Vollrath, Tom Brown, Jeff Sutter, Kathleen Kaiser; guest Andrea Vollrath.

Guest Speaker: No speaker, the meeting was a work session.

Unfinished Business:

Cable Access Show - This meeting was to be about the Cable Access show. Vicki was hoping to receive David Kaiser's script for the show tonight, but Dave K. didn't attend the meeting. Vicki announced that she has guests lined up for interviews for the show. Vicki said that David K. told her he would still be willing to help with the show. Vicki said she would call David later in the week re the script outline.

IUSB Fest - The SJVG will have a table at IUSB Fest, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday September 13, on the Southeast end of the quad area in front of the library. Tables, chairs and power cord will be provided. Groups are not allowed to sell anything, however we agreed to have our new buttons available with a "Donations Appreciated" sign. Kathleen will bring the buttons and shirts for members who expressed interest in buying T-shirts for themselves. There will be a fireworks display at 8:00 p.m.

Tom will setup a display to demonstrate computer reuse that FREE GEEK Michiana provides to the community. Vicki requested that the Mission Statement be emailed to her so that she could make additional copies for distribution on Saturday the 13th. Kathleen will follow up with this.

Printing/Embroidery Work - Kathleen informed Lance that Dan, from Martin Marketing, reported he had not yet received payment for the T-shirts and buttons. Kathleen had asked Dan to send the bill to the SJVG in care of Lance, the treasurer. Lance said that he did not receive an invoice from Martin Marketing. Vicki thought the total quoted to Kathleen was much higher than she (Vicki) had initially been quoted. Kathleen will call Martin Marketing and request a fax invoice. She will pass the invoice to Vicki to compare to the original quote and to Lance for our records.

New Business:

Resignation - Dave Kaiser resigned today as co-coordinator.

SJVGreens Congress - The St Joe Valley Greens will hold the annual Congress to elect new officers and delegates after the IGP Congress.

IGP Congress - Dave Vollrath, Jeff Sutter and Tom Brown will be attending the annual IGP Congress September 20-21. Tom and Dave shared copies of the proposals to amend the IGP bylaws. The group reviewed and discussed some of the proposals. Tom requested that all group members read the proposals carefully and vote on each. He also asked members to briefly explain opposition to the proposals they reject. Proposals include alterations to 1) Affiliation Requests 2) Affiliation Process 3) Membership Dues 4) Unaffiliated Caucuses 5) Voting Process 6) Officers, delegates and candidates 7) Technology, and 8) the Political Platform.

Tom reminded Kathleen that she and Dave need to join IGP before the Congress. He noted that at about 50% of the IGP Coordinating Committee meetings, business could not be conducted because of a lack of a quorum. Most of the proposals before Congress are related to the problem of participation in IGP's governance, which affects making a quorum. The quorum situation should be resolved by the acceptance of two new local chapters and the reorganized Marco Greens. There is urgency because of the 2004 presidential election -- the IGP endorsement for a Green presidential candidate cannot be easily decided without a quorum at a regular meeting or a special candidate selection meeting. On the other hand the IGP can always conduct a referendum to select the presidential candidate selection.
