SJVGreens Minutes
Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens
November 10, 2005; Tom Brown, recorder
Call to Order: Kathleen Petitjean called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM, in the Molloy Room of the St. Jo. Co. Public Library downtown branch, South Bend, IN.
Members Present: Tom Brown, Kathleen Petitjean
Guests: Steve Sechrest
Coordinator's Report
Local Politics - Kathleen was elected to the executive board of the Keller Park Neighborhood Association.
Renew Library Room - Kathleen will poll active members to pick a good night for meetings then renew the Molloy Room for another year. She will also ask the library to roll over our deposit for the digital projector so we can have it available at all our meetings.
Secretary of State Campaign
Kathleen is the campaign rep in St. Joseph County. She asked for help brainstorming potential contacts regarding speaking opportunities for Bill Stant when he next visits South Bend. Tom connected his laptop to the library network, and everyone suggested individuals and organizations to look up on the Internet. We found enough contacts to satisfy Kathleen's need.
Steve will check at Indiana Univesity South Bend (IUSB) re setting up a table so Kathleen and other volunteers can circulate petitions for Bill Stant and tell people about the SJVGreens. Tom suggested screening "Leave My Child Alone" at the table. It is only 11 minutes long and well produced. Steve will find out if it is possible to have A-V equipment at the table. Tom suggested he coordinate with David Vollrath who is a faculty member.
GreenTV
Tom reported that he found a talented co-producer, Adam Turner, who is studying video production at IUSB. He has helped produce three shows so far. Unfortunately, Adam is moving to California in January, 2006, to study cinematography. Kathleen offered to make a sign to recruit producers for GreenTV when she tables at IUSB. Steve suggested Tom contact a friend, Tim Richardson, who is a local film producer. It turns out that Tim is the new assistant at Comcast public access, and Tom met him this week.
Tom compared the public access cable television services in Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne and South Bend. Indianapolis has no public access at all. South Bend has a minimal system which is deteriorating from lack of funding. Ft. Wayne has an enviable system which may be the best in the State. Tom believes there is community support for improving the public access system in South Bend, thinks the Greens can play a central role and knows the contract will be renegotiated in 12-24 months.
Next Meeting
The next meeting is Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Library.
Kathleen asked if GreentTV can present Joshua Casteel's talk about declaring his conscientious objection to war while serving as an Army interrogator at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Tom will dub the unedited talk for Kathleen to review. As an alternative, Tom suggested showing "Leave My Child Alone" and inviting Opt Out organizers to speak about the counter recruiting movement. Tom will send Kathleen the contact information for Opt Out.
Adjournment
Kathleen adjourned the meeting at 8:30 PM.
