Minutes of St. Joe Valley Greens

July 13, 2006; Kathleen Petitjean, recorder

Call to Order: Kathleen Petitjean called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM, at Another Bookstore in 100 Center, Mishawaka, IN.

Members Present: Karl Hardy, Tom Brown, Kathleen Petitjean.

Coordinator's Report

Kathleen reported that she had about $165 in copying and mailing expenses leading up to the final push in the ballot-access signature drive. Tom suggested that she approach Citizens for Stant for reimbursement and report their response. Kathleen reported that she attended an organizing meeting for Secretary of State forum. She noted that the League of Women Voters' bylaws stipulates that they must be listed first when co-sponsoring a candidate event. She also noted that the LWV will not sponsor candidate forums if one of the "major" party candidates does not participate. This is a concern although it is likely that IUSB would still hold the forum regardless of LWV's participation.

IGP Delegate Report

Dave Vollrath was not present.

Treasurer's Report

Lance Howard was not present.

GreenTV

Tom reported that he wants to work with Dave Frank on a training video for his democracy project. Tom is helping Karl with his practicum as Karl works on his Social Ecology Masters degree at Prescott University. The practicum involves producing a video on Social Ecology. Tom would is interested in producing a documentary on the proposed rail re-opening. Tom is taking a month off to rest. GreenTV will rebroadcast previous shows and not produce new shows until September.

New Business

We reviewed and discussed Bill Stant's message to the Greens re: direction for Indiana Green Party. Members present would support running Green candidates as independents for local offices. Karl outlined why the goal may not be to win but to raise issues improtant to Greens, such as:

Kathleen and Tom will get copies of the district maps, particularly the 1st District where most of us live in South Bend.

Karl reported that Jeff Sutter suggested another Pesto Party at his home. We discussed the proposed party, but nobody offered a motion to vote on.

Lance has requested in recent emails to change the location of the meetings. He would like us to use the South Bend Public Library if possible. The library was convenient for all who live in South Bend. Those in attendance liked the idea of continuing to meet at and support the GLBT resource center, our current meeting place.

Next Meeting

The next meeting is Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Another Book Store in 100 Center, Mishawaka, IN. Our featured speaker is Joe Donnelly, Democratic candidate for the second congressional district, who opposes the incumbent Representative Chris Chocola.

Adjournment

Kathleen adjourned the meeting at 8:30 PM.
